Melissa Gilbert said that Michael Landon often smelled of alcohol

Melissa Gilbert, who played Landon’s daughter, Laura Ingalls, in Little House on the Prairie, said Landon had a significant impact on her as a child and young adult. Although she didn’t know at the time that he drank vodka from his coffee mug every day, she says she believes he is the reason she dated men who smelled like alcohol when she was young.
Gilbert also says that Landon influenced his preference for men who were “physical” and had a sense of humor. Sometimes, when the crew was filming outdoor scenes at the ranch, she says he would take off his shirt and work with only pants, suspenders and boots. “Women came in droves to see him work and pass out,” wrote Gilbert in his autobiography Prairie Tale.

Landon not only drank alcohol, he also smoked. At the Conversations with Michael Landon, by author Tom Ito, Landon said he wanted to produce more TV films and short films so he could focus more on his health. However, he admitted that he had to work to get rid of his “terrible addictions”.
“[Short projects] they gave me a chance to get back to what I needed to do, and that’s taking care of me physically, ”Landon told Ito. Landon said he wanted to spend more time training and feeling good. His addictions made it more difficult, but he joked that he didn’t want to live until he was 95 because he just wanted to be right in front of the camera.
Landon went to the gym and played tennis to stay in shape. He told Ito that when he worked out he felt more intelligent. He also said he liked the feel of the endorphins after a good workout. He revealed that he had a moment in his life when he started feeling bad about himself, but as soon as he started working out he started feeling better.
Michael Landon tried to beat cancer with a healthy lifestyle
Landon did everything he could to beat cancer. He started treatment that emphasized diet and vitamins instead of chemotherapy, reports the Associated Press. One of Landon’s complaints was that the oranges were making his skin discolored.
“Damn carrots are turning me orange,” said Landon. “And every time I eat or drink, I swallow digestive enzymes to replace what the pancreas has stopped producing. And then, once a day, I take a proven remedy for intestinal irritations – a coffee enema. Yes, I am filled to the brim. Organic coffee, I might add. “
