Michael Fassbender will star in David Fincher’s directed film adaptation of the comic book The Killer … after Brad Pitt ‘gave up’

Michael Fassbender will star in the film adaptation of the French comic book The Killer.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Gone Girl director David Fincher will also lead the next feature.

The frequent collaborator of filmmaker Andrew Kevin Walker, who wrote the scripts for Fight Club and Se7en, will author the script for the project.

The Killer was originally created in 1998 by writer Alex Nolent, who wrote under his pen name Matz, and artist Luc Jacamon.

The 43-year-old actor will play a requisite killer who begins to rely heavily on his conscience while working on various tasks.

As reported by the media, Fincher has been linked to The Killer since 2007.

The 58-year-old director’s frequent collaborator, Brad Pitt, was chosen to star in the film before giving up due to other commitments.

Although the project was originally in development at Paramount, The Killer was put into a recovery phase and later acquired by Netflix.

The media also reported that Fincher is looking to start physical production in September this year.

Fassbender has not appeared in any major films since 2019’s X-Men: Dark Phoenix, although he is involved in several projects that are set to debut in the near future.

The actor will play the role of Colt Magnum in the upcoming action comedy Kung Fury 2, which serves as a sequel to the original 2015 film.

Also confirmed to appear on the project are Arnold Schwarzenegger and Alexandra Shipp, among others.

Production of the film began in July 2019 and ended two months later.

Post-production work was stopped abruptly the following year, due to a lawsuit filed against the filmmakers.

Fassbender will also appear in the next biopic of sports, Next Goal Wins.

The actor was cast in the role of coach Thomas Rongen, who helped coach the Samoan football team, which performed poorly, making him formidable athletes.

The feature film directed by Taika Waititi went into production in November 2019 and went into post-production the following January.

Next Goal Wins does not have a set release date.
