Miami Dolphins free agent rumors in 2021: Dolphins ‘between three teams in combination’ for linebacker Tyrell Adams

The Miami Dolphins are looking to hire former Houston Texans linebacker Tyrell Adams, according to a report by the Miami Herald. If the Dolphins manage to land in Adams, they will reunite him with Benardrick McKenny, for whom they will officially negotiate on Wednesday after agreeing to the deal with the Texans on Sunday.

Adams recorded 125 tackles and two sacks last year for Houston. He joined the Texans in 2018, with a brief stint on the season on the San Francisco 49ers training team in 2018, before returning to Houston. He also spent time with the Indianapolis Colts, Buffalo Bills, Oakland Raiders and Kansas City Chiefs. He was initially hired as a free agent not hired with the Seattle Seahawks in 2015 outside of Western Georgia.

At Miami’s 3-4 base, Adams would likely compete for a starting position as an internal linebacker. McKinney and incumbent Jerome Baker also contributed to this role. Miami’s fourth linebacker is probably Andrew Van Ginkel, who will likely serve as a pass rusher in most situations.

The Miami Herald report does not list the other teams “in the mix” for Adams.
