Mets owner Steve Cohen deletes Twitter after the family receives threats in an impasse between day traders and hedge funds

NEW YORK (WABC) – Until now, interactions on Twitter between Mets fans and Steve Cohen were about free agents and T-shirts, but things got worse this week and had nothing to do with the team itself.

Cohen deleted his Twitter account after the continuing standoff between day traders and hedge funds.

The Mets owner released a statement on Saturday saying:

“I really enjoyed the comings and goings of Mets fans on Twitter, which unfortunately was overcome this week by incorrect information unrelated to Mets that led our family to receive personal threats. So, I’m going to take a break for now. We have other ways to listen to your suggestions and remain committed to doing so. “

Cohen added that he is still committed to putting a winning team on the field.
