The Mets are leaving Steven Matz.
The team sent the 29-year-old southpaw to the Blue Jays on Wednesday night, receiving in return three unnamed nominees, the Post confirmed.
The Mets reached a one-year, $ 5.2 million deal with Matz in early December to avoid arbitration.
He fought in the shortened 2020 season COVID-19, going 0-5 with an ERA of 9.68 in six matches and three appearances of relief. He lost his place in the initial rotation, ending up on the injured list with discomfort in his shoulder.
The Mets are welcoming right-handed pitchers Yennsy Diaz, Sean Reid-Foley and Josh Winckowski, who is Blue Jays’ 27th candidate, according to MLB.com
The Mets reinforced a formidable rotation this off-season, adding Carlos Carrasco and Joey Lucchesi to a team that includes Jacob deGrom, Marcus Stroman, David Peterson and Noah Syndergaard, who is due to return from Tommy John’s surgery a few months before the 2021 season. Robert Gsellman and Seth Lugo will also challenge to start.
Still hovering over the Mets is pitcher Trevor Bauer. The team made an offer to the 2020 winner Cy Young this offseason, although he was also linked to the Blue Jays, Angels and Dodgers.
