Metro Health scheduling appointments for second dose of COVID-19

SANTO ANTÓNIO – The San Antonio Metropolitan Sanitary District has started scheduling appointments for the second dose of the COVID-19 vaccine.

Patients who received the first dose of the vaccine by noon on Wednesday at the Alamodome are eligible, a press release said.

Previously, people who had already been vaccinated were instructed to register online one week before the scheduled second dose, but that is no longer the case, officials said.

Patients will receive a call from Metro Health to schedule their second dose. If a person missed the call and would like to book, they can call 311 and select option 8 or send an email to [email protected].

Currently, only frontline healthcare professionals and residents of long-term care facilities (called Phase 1A), as well as people over 65 or with a chronic medical condition that puts them at increased risk for serious illness COVID-19 (called Phase 1B) are currently eligible to receive the COVID-19 vaccine.

Phase 1B recipients include:

  • People aged 65 and over
  • People 16 years of age or older with at least one chronic medical condition that puts them at increased risk of serious illness caused by the virus that causes COVID-19, such as, without limitation:
  • Cancer
  • Chronic kidney disease
  • COPD (chronic obstructive pulmonary disease)
  • Heart problems, such as heart failure, coronary artery disease or cardiomyopathies
  • Solid organ transplant
  • Obesity and severe obesity (body mass index 30 kg / m2 or higher)
  • Pregnancy
  • Sickle cell anemia
  • Type 2 diabetes mellitus

As Bexar County continues to receive more vaccines, more consultations will be opened. Residents should check daily for schedules available on the city website or by calling 311 and selecting option 8.

The opening hours of the Alamodome vaccine clinic are currently from 9 am to 6:30 pm, Monday to Saturday.
