Metro Exodus PC Enhanced Edition will be a separate, free product for existing owners • Eurogamer.net

“Didn’t you think Metro Exodus could get any better? Hold our vodka.”

Metro Exodus developer 4A Games has announced an enhanced PC edition of its first-person shooter. As with the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X / S versions, this updated PC edition will be offered as a free update.

“We have built a new Fully Ray Traced Lighting Pipeline that brings a series of optimizations, updates and new features to the Ray Traced Global Lighting and Emissive Lighting that we created with the original launch of Metro Exodus, as well as an upgrade implementation of our powerful technology of Temporal Reconstruction to further increase resolution, visual details and performance, “wrote 4A Games in a blog post about the new versions.

“And we’ve pushed these improvements to the limit to take advantage of the latest GPU hardware capable of Ray Tracing from Nvidia and AMD, to create the definitive version for enthusiastic PC fans.”

On consoles, Metro Exodus will run with ray-tracing at 60FPS. It will reach 4K on the PS5 and X Series and “target” 1080p on the S Series. You will be able to adjust the game’s FOV and there will be tactile feedback on the PS5 DualSense controller.

There is still no release date for these console editions, although they remain free updates. The Xbox version of the game will be released via Smart Delivery.

A table listing all the many visual updates that come with the new console and the PC Enhanced Edition versions of the game shows only two differences on the PC: “advanced ray-drawn reflections” and DLSS 2.0 support.

Meanwhile, a Mac version of Metro Exodus will arrive via the Apple Store, Steam and Epic Games Store in March. A version of Linux will be released via Steam later this year.
