Union County, South Carolina, was the scene of a massive “home party” over Memorial Day weekend that turned violent on Saturday night – resulting in two people being shot and killed and at least five others suffering. gunshot wounds.

Investigators from the sheriff’s office and agents from the SC State Law Enforcement Division (SLED) are handling the investigation into the shooting, according to the statement. According to the police, the first call related to the home party took place around 7:49 pm EDT on Saturday.

The deputies who answered that call reportedly discovered up to 300 cars along the SC 114 highway and in the vicinity of the SC 9 highway – including some vehicles parked on the highway. Police estimate that about 1,000 people were present at the party.

Several cars were pulled off the road by tow trucks, but the party was not interrupted.

Several hours later – just before 10:30 pm (Brasília time) on Saturday – witnesses reported hearing shots from a vehicle passing the party, prompting participants to respond to fire on the vehicle.

According to the reporter Melanie Palmer from WSPA TV 7 (Greenville / Spartanburg, SC), panic ensued – resulting in a woman being trampled by fleeing participants. His condition is unknown, but the Union County coroner William Holcombe confirmed that 21 years old Curtis Lamont Bomar from Spartanburg, SC and 17-year-old Jabbrie Brandon de Union died of gunshot wounds sustained during the melee. Bomar died at the scene of the shooting, while Brandon succumbed to his injuries at a nearby hospital.

Two people were arrested in connection with the incident – 26 years old Shaquille O’Bryant Barber Jonesville, SC and 35-year-old Darnell Deandre Beacham from Buffalo, SC At the time of writing, Barber was accused of disorderly conduct and illegal possession of a firearm, while Beacham was accused of disorderly conduct.

It is not immediately clear whether Barber or Beacham was involved in the shooting. Multiple weapons were reportedly discovered at the scene and more arrests and charges are likely to occur.

SLED spokesperson Tommy Crosby confirmed that the agency was providing crime scene support to Union County deputies.

In addition to SLED, police officers from the Union, the SC public security department, the Cherokee County Sheriff, SC Highway Patrol (SCHP) and the SC Natural Resources Department (SCDNR) assisted in handling the incident.
