Melissa McCarthy and Octavia Spencer Make For Clumsy Superhero Troupe – Deadline

Melissa McCarthy and Octavia Spencer give a chance to people like Wonder Woman and Black Widow in the Netflix trailer Force of Thunder. The comedy marks the latest project by McCarthy and her husband, screenwriter and director Ben Falcone, who were also behind the HBO Max film Superintelligence.

Set in a world terrified by supervillains, the Force of Thunder The teaser starts with Lydia McCarthy trying to meet up with best friend and scientist Emily Stanton (Spencer). Emily reveals her childhood friend who developed and perfected a formula that gives normal people superhuman skills. Despite Emily’s warning to keep her hands off any laboratory equipment, Lydia finds herself injected with superhero genes and new powers.

“Everything about you becomes stronger,” Emily says to Lydia, as she tests her super strength.

With Emily’s strength, Lydia’s invisibility powers and super-stylish outfits, the duo tackle crime in the city – with questionable combat style. The good guys, however, are not the only ones with powers. A clan of supervillains – including Jason Bateman’s crab-clawed criminal – led by Bobby Cannavale’s boss terrifies citizens, jeopardizing the city’s well-being.

“How can I not stop two 40-year-old girls?” The King of Cannavale talks about his opponents.

Force of Thunder also features Pom Kelmentieff, Melissa Leo, Taylor Mosby, Marcella Lowery and Melissa Ponzio. Becki Cross Trujillo is an executive producer, with Falcone, McCarthy and Marc Platt acting as producers. The comedy, directed by Falcone, hits Netflix on April 9.
