GRAND RAPIDS, MI – Meijer plans to host a series of vaccine clinics across the state this week as part of an effort to administer 25,000 doses of the COVID-19 vaccine.
The Walker-based retailer said in a press release that residents 65 and older who registered with Meijer are eligible for a dose of the vaccine. Meijer launched its vaccination program in partnership with the state on January 15 and has since provided 20,000 doses of the vaccine in Michigan and 30,000 doses in total.
“We are very proud of the role that our stores and pharmacies continue to play in this huge effort to vaccinate people against COVID-19,” said Rick Keyes, president and CEO of Meijer, in a statement. “As a partner pharmacy in the state of Michigan and the federal government, we have been able to receive vaccines and administer doses quickly to thousands of people in our communities, usually within 72 hours.”
Company spokesman Frank Guglielmi said Meijer plans to host 70 vaccine clinics this week in 40 of its stores. The vaccine is only available by appointment and Meijer does not disclose which of its stores are offering clinics.
“These are not walking clinics,” he said. “People who have registered will be notified of their appointment and the location of the store. Some stores will have clinics for two days, some stores will have clinics for one day. “
Meijer says the “aggressive vaccination scheme is made possible through partnerships with multiple counties and cities in Michigan, along with doses received from the State of Michigan and the Centers for Disease Control.”
“I am extremely proud of the incredible work that our store and pharmacy teams have done to create a fast and efficient process for our vaccine clinics,” said Jason Beauch, vice president of pharmacy at Meijer. “The importance of these clinics does not go unnoticed by our team members and patients – it is a very exciting experience for everyone involved.”
Those who are eligible and wish to receive the vaccine can register by sending a “COVID” text message to 75049, visiting clinic.meijer.com, or in person at their preferred Meijer pharmacy.
