Meghan McCain it hit the British monarchy in Tuesday’s episode of The View, declaring that “the American experiment is the way to go”.
“I don’t want to defend the monarchy,” McCain began his speech. “I am a 100% American blood who celebrates freedom in any way I can and always, so being in a position where I must defend the monarchy is uncomfortable.”
Asked what she thought of English broadcaster Piers Morgan attacking her show when asked about the journalistic treatment she gave the royal family, McCain – with his talent for conservative solipsism – plunged headlong into a highly personalized speech about what it means to be an American it is a patriot to boot.
“My ancestors fought in the American Revolution,” she explained. “I called my daughter ‘Freedom’. I like to go to Mount Vernon to visit the home of our Founding Fathers. “
It must be remembered that Mount Vernon was, in fact, a slave plantation. At the time of George Washington’s death in 1799, the plantation still held 317 slaves, 90 percent of whom were African Americans.
McCain, looking at the conversations he had with friends, pointed to a potential generational difference in how the British feel about the monarchy. “There is a feeling among some people in the UK,” she said, “that they kind of left Queen and the country. And they are doing so at a time when Prince Phillip is ninety-nine years old and, literally, possibly on his deathbed after open heart surgery.
McCain ended his commentary on the evils of the British monarchy with one of its most eccentric word spas to date, infused with a touch of patriotism, history and feminism combined.
“We have two American women – Meghan Markle and Oprah Winfrey – who are alone finishing what George Washington and our revolutionary colleagues have done. I am totally in favor.”
The whole thing left Goldberg so stunned that his facial reaction brought an internet divided into laughter:
