“The View” co-host Meghan McCain rebuked the mainstream media on Wednesday for ignoring the growing nursing home scandal surrounding New York Governor Andrew Cuomo, claiming they helped the Democrat escape the guilt for its failure to protect the state’s most vulnerable population.
“I am very angry with this story,” said McCain. “I think the media did a terrible job of covering it in every way.
“He won Emmy, appeared on TV and joked about his sex life with gigantic tips with his brother [CNN anchor] Chris Cuomo – the adulation and lack of guilt and questioning about him across the board and his way of avoiding him, I think it was nothing short of journalistic malpractice and malfeasance. “

The Cuomo nursing home controversy returned to focus last week when its top aide admitted that the Democratic administration had withheld the true number of COVID-19-related deaths in nursing homes to avoid federal scrutiny, as reported by first time by the New York Post.
The governor’s directive for nursing homes to accept patients who had or were suspected of having COVID-19 created an attack of cases that infected many elderly patients and resulted in some 15,000 deaths.

The governor defended the data released earlier this week, telling reporters that “all deaths in nursing homes and hospitals were reported in a complete, public and accurate manner” He also said that the worrying COVID rate in elderly care facilities was due transmission of the virus by employees and visitors.
A heated McCain said that Cuomo showed “no empathy” in light of recent allegations and called him “totally macabre by the way he talks to people.

“He did not apologize to families who lost relatives in this way,” she said. “I think he is disgusting, I think there should be a criminal investigation, [and] I think they should resign. “
She continued, “I think about the way my father [Sen. John McCain] he died, surrounded by his family … and then I think about how things could have happened had he not been famous or died of COVID in a nursing home under the leadership of Governor Cuomo. “
