Meghan Markle says Palace is behind the change to Archie’s birth certificate

Meghan Markle is establishing the correct record regarding changes made to Archie’s son’s birth certificate.

In a statement on Sunday to Page Six, a spokesman for the Duchess of Sussex, 39, said the omission of her name, “Rachel Meghan”, in Archie’s birth papers was a call made by The Palace.

“The name change in public documents in 2019 was dictated by The Palace, as confirmed by documents from senior Palace officials. This was not requested by Meghan, the Duchess of Sussex, nor by the Duke of Sussex, ”says the statement.

Over the weekend, an updated piece of Archie’s birth certificate appeared online, with The Sun UK highlighting the changes made to Markle’s name. She is now listed as “Her Royal Highness, Duchess of Sussex”, while Harry, 36, is considered “Her Royal Highness Prince Henry Charles Albert David Duke of Sussex”.

The changes were made in June 2019, a month after Archie Harrison Mountbatten-Windsor was born.

A spokesman for Markle also criticized speculation that the issues were a criticism of sister-in-law Kate Middleton, who shares three young children with Harry’s older brother, Prince William.

The Sussex, who have been married since 2018, stepped down as “senior” royalty in January. They currently reside in California.
