Meghan Markle says ‘I’m ready to talk’ in a newly released Oprah clip

Meghan Markle opened up about why she and Prince Harry are speaking out now in a new sample clip from the Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s next interview with Oprah Winfrey.

Gayle King presented the video on “CBS This Morning” on Friday, saying it would show why Meghan and Harry “did not feel comfortable talking openly before”.

The clip shows Winfrey discussing the matter with Meghan: “I called you in February or March 2018 before the wedding asking, ‘Could you give me an interview’, and you said, ‘I’m sorry, this is not the right time. ‘”

“I remember that conversation very well. I didn’t even have permission to have a conversation with you in person, right? “Meghan replied.” There had to be people from the communication [team] sitting there. ”

“There were other people in the room when I was having that conversation,” said Winfrey. “You kindly rejected me and said, ‘Maybe there will be another time, when the right time comes.'”

The media mogul gently pressed: “What is right about this time?”

“Well, so many things. That we are on the other side of many life experiences that have happened, ”said Meghan. “And also that we have the ability to make our own choices in a way that I couldn’t have said yes to you at the time, that was not my choice.”

“As an adult who lived a really independent life to then enter this construction that is, um, different from what I think people think it is, it is really liberating to be able to have the right and the privilege to be able to say, ‘Yes … I am ready to speak. ‘ ”

Winfrey added: “And say it for yourself. And not having to consult anyone at this point. ”

The Duchess replied: “Yes, so that I can simply make a choice on my own. And just to be able to speak for yourself. ”

In another clip from the interview released earlier this week, Winfrey asked the Duchess: “How do you feel about the palace hearing you speak your truth today?”

“I don’t know how they could expect that after all this time we would still be silent if there were an active role the company is playing in perpetuating falsehoods about us,” said Meghan in the teaser, released on Wednesday.

“And if it comes with the risk of losing things, I mean – it’s long since been lost,” she added.

CBS told HuffPost in a statement earlier this month that Oprah talks to Meghan about “entering life like royalty, marriage, motherhood, philanthropic work and how she is handling life under intense public pressure” during the interview.

Later in the interview, Meghan is accompanied by Prince Harry, and the two discuss “his move to the United States and his hopes and future dreams for the expansion of his family,” said CBS.

The two-hour primetime special airs on Sunday at 8 pm on CBS.
