Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s interview with Oprah Winfrey is “a cause for concern” within the royal family – and especially for Prince William, according to a royal source.
The exclusive meeting, scheduled to air on CBS next month, evoked memories of Princess Diana’s infamous 1995 interview with BBC presenter Martin Bashir – in which she openly addressed the case of Prince Charles with Camilla Parker Bowles, said the source to the Post.
Harry and Meghan’s bombshell announcement last year that they were leaving the royal family led to a split between the two famous brothers, who were not supposed to speak for months afterwards.
Even a year later, Harry, 36, and William, 38, are not in regular contact, the source said.
The source added that the brief interview with Winfrey brought back memories of William of Diana who said to Bashir: “Well, there were three of us at this wedding, so it was a little crowded” – an admission that shook the royal family.
But the confirmation of the 90-minute meeting of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex with Winfrey, which will air on March 7, is hardly a surprise.
“This interview has been an open secret in the palace for months,” said the source.
There will be a remarkable TV interview that Meghan, 39, and Harry gave in October 2019 with Tom Bradby of ITV News – during which Harry talked about his tense relationship with his older brother.
“We are certainly on different paths at the moment, but I will always be there for him and, as I know, he will always be there for me,” said Harry at the time. “We don’t see each other as much as we did before because we are so busy, but I love him deeply.”
A source underlined The Post that the couple’s conversation with Winfrey has the potential to become explosive – as the veteran host’s best friend, Gayle King, said on Tuesday that “nothing is off limits”
“Tom had, like, 10 minutes with Harry and Meghan,” said the source. “Oprah has 90 minutes – can you imagine what she will do with it?”
The Sussex, who moved to Montecito, California, after their spectacular separation from the palace and are now expecting their second child, are not being compensated for the next interview, the Post learned.
A spokeswoman for the Oprah Winfrey Network confirmed that the couple will not receive a paycheck and said that no donation is being made to the charity.
They see the meeting with the iconic media expert as a chance to finally “tell their truth,” according to people who know them.
