“The internet is so FUN.”
Megan Fox spread rumors that she was the author of what appeared to be an anti-mask message that went viral on Friday.
“I never made any statement about wearing masks,” she wrote in her Instagram story, hours after the fake post circulated online. “It’s scary that you can go viral and possibly be socially crucified for something you didn’t do.”
She added: “The internet is so FUN.”
It turns out that the viral posting of Megan Fox’s alleged statement about wearing a mask is false.

The original post, which has since been deleted, was a fake screenshot of Fox’s social media account with the message: “I noticed comments on social media questioning my decision not to ‘wear a mask’ in public. Although I appreciate my concern fans and others is ultimately my decision to trust the universe to keep me and my family safe. We’re fine. “
“The fans I met had no problem and if they did, I would have happily given them space or put one in, as I always carry one with me for the comfort of others,” the statement continued. “Ultimately, I don’t think bullying is the best way to do this. Please respect our beliefs, values and privacy.”

The fake screenshot tweet also included a photo of the “Transformers” veterinarian carrying two masks while walking hand in hand with her boyfriend, Machine Gun Kelly.
Social media detectives found that the fake message was photoshopped in a real Instagram post from Fox in 2014, which said, “How can we expect to receive blessings in our lives when we are the authors of other people’s suffering? Stop slandering. Stop bullying.”
