Megan Anderson no longer has a UFC contract after a loss to Amanda Nunes

Megan Anderson is going to need a new fighting home.

The former featherweight title contender no longer has a contract with the UFC after signing a contract after losing to Amanda Nunes last weekend.

UFC officials confirmed that Anderson signed on to the promotion when speaking to MMA Fighting on Tuesday.

During a live broadcast on Twitch, Anderson confirmed that his time in the UFC had come to an end, although she also said that the promotion planned to end the entire women’s featherweight division.

Several sources speaking to MMA Fighting have denied that the UFC has plans to get rid of the featherweight. After Nunes’s dominant victory last weekend at UFC 259, UFC President Dana White said the weight class would remain as long as she wanted to defend the title with 145 pounds.

Nunes is currently 3-0 as a featherweight in the UFC after dispatching Cris Cyborg to claim the title and then mark subsequent title defenses against Felicia Spencer and Anderson.

As for Anderson, her stint in the UFC comes to an end after she accumulates a 3-3 record with the promotion, after joining the squad of Invicta FC in 2018. The former Invicta champion suffered defeats in two of her three first fights, including an unbalanced defeat for former bantamweight champion Holly Holm on her debut.

The Australian ended up taking a shot at the title after consecutive victories over Zarah Fairn Dos Santos and Norma Dumont, but now it looks like she will be looking for a new promotion.

When it comes to the future of featherweight in the UFC, there is currently only one fight scheduled in the category, with Spencer scheduled to face debutant Danyelle Wolf on May 22.
