The women’s featherweight of the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) was a little more shallow. During a recent broadcast on Twitch, Megan Anderson revealed that she is no longer under contract with Endeavor-owned mixed martial arts (MMA) promotion.
According to MMA Fighting confirmation, Anderson’s contract expired after his defeat in the first round via submission to UFC female champion champion Amanda Nunes at UFC 259 last weekend in Las Vegas, Nevada, and to decision to renew it did not come to pass.
According to Anderson’s statement made during the stream, she stated that the promotion was set to end the entire 145 pound weight class as a whole. Although it has always been a popular belief that the promotion would end up eliminating the division due to the fact that there are not enough fighters to make a Top 15, UFC President Dana White reiterated after UFC 259 that as long as Nunes wanted to defend the belt, the division would live .
According to the report, it is a feeling that the promotion is willing to follow after Anderson’s departure, although he now has one less candidate. Nunes will fall to the bantamweight to defend the belt in the next fight (possibly against Julianna Pena), which means that the featherweight will stay put for some time, at least with regard to the championship frame. The next weight fight will be Felicia Spencer against Danyelle Wolf on May 22.
During his time with the promotion, Anderson accumulated a 3-3 record, winning victories over Cat Zingano, Zarah Fairn Dos Santos and Norma Dumont Viana, while losing to Nunes, Spencer and Holly Holm.
There are a few options for Anderson’s future, including Bellator MMA, who has a healthy 145-pound weight class. If she decides to gain a few more pounds, Anderson may try to sign with the Professional Fighter’s League to compete in the lightweight division.
