Mega Millions’ unclaimed $ 1 million ticket expires on Wednesday

The unthinkable is about to happen: a winner of the Mega Millions lottery in Rhode Island is about to lose a $ 1 million prize.

According to lottery officials, the Mega Millions Quick Pick winning ticket has not yet been claimed since it was purchased about a year ago, on March 14, 2020.

Now, time is running out for the lucky player to claim his winnings before they are handed over to the state’s general fund.

The ticket was purchased at the Season’s Corner Market in North Smithfield, Rhode Island, for the St. Patrick’s Day draw, according to lottery officials.

According to lottery rules, ticket holders have an entire year to claim their prize. However, from 2 pm, no one came.

The invisible ticket corresponded to five numbers, winning the $ 1 million prize.

The winning numbers were 20, 27, 28, 58, 59 and the Mega Ball number was 25.

Now, as time runs out, lottery officials are asking players to check three times and see if they have any winning tickets.

“Check the glove compartment and dresser drawers for Mega Millions tickets that you haven’t checked out yet,” said Melissa Juhnowski, a spokeswoman for the Rhode Island Lottery.

There are eight other prizes in addition to the jackpot that players can win, including the $ 1 million prize, Juhnowski added.

To date, there is also an unclaimed $ 100,000 PowerBall PowerPlay ticket, which was drawn on September 2, 2020, and a $ 20,000 Mega Millions Megaplier ticket from the draw on January 22, 2021.

Both tickets were sold in Rhode Island.

The Rhode Island lottery website maintains a sweepstakes file for the past 12 months so that players can check their tickets.
