Mega Gyarados Attack Counter Guide

Mega Gyarados is a Dingy and Water type Mega Raid boss. Ideal attack counters will include powerful Electric Grass Fighting Mistake and Fairy types, with a wide range of different counters available to help you defeat it.

Depending on your levels and counters, we recommend 3 to 5 high-level coaches and more if you don’t have ideal teams.

This guide will teach you how to beat the fan favorite Mega, as well as its optimal CP stats, moves and reach.

Mega Gyarados Counters

Since Shadow Pokémon are extremely expensive to energize and require specific events to remove Frustration with a Charge TM, they will NOT be listed as raid counters in this article. That said, if you have the shadow form of a listed raid counter Pokémon enabled and TMed, use it.

Let’s check out the best raid counters for Mega Gyarados:

With a wide range of counters and some weaknesses of different types, thanks to this Water and Dingy double typing, most coaches should be able to form a strong team of accountants. Many of the strong accountants had community events or days, which helps! Reach the powerful Grass Electric Fighting Fairy and Mistake type Pokémon. Many of these counters are incredibly useful and versatile in terms of PVE, names like Machamp, Togekiss and Zekrom are a name that we have come up with repeatedly.

For more budget counters, you can check the entire list of accountants here, but Roserade, Hariyama, Torterra, Genesect Normal and Sirfetch’d all show up, so keep them in mind.

How to Get Mega Gyarados

You cannot capture Gyarados in its megavoluted form since the attack. The mega raid boss is always captureable in its basic form and, as such, the CP intervals are for a regular Gyarados.

Gyarados can be captured with the following CP values:

  • 1855 – 1937 CP without increasing climate
  • 2319 – 2422 CP driven by Rainy or Mist increased climate

To obtain Mega Gyarados, you will need 200 Mega Energy for the initial evolution, after 40 Mega Energy to evolve the same Gyarados again in the future. Mega Energy can be obtained through Mega Gyarados Raids, and once you’ve evolved Mega Gyarados, you can earn 5 Mega Energy per candy while walking with him as your friend. You can walk with any Magikarp or Gyarados to gain Mega Energy, as long as you have previously developed one to register it in your Mega Pokédex.

Gyarados Shiny

Like all Mega Raid Bosses, you can capture the brilliant version of Gyarados on a raid, and potentially also in the jungle, if you can find it! Gyarados has a slight gender difference in regular, shiny sprites, with their whiskers changing color.

If you need your strongest Water striker, cascade and hydraulic pump types are preferred for DPS and for a Dingy enter the attacker Bite and Crunch. Mega Gyarados doesn’t have Dragon type, but if you want to use it as a Dragon attacker type you will need to move Dragon Tail legacy with Outrage as the Charge move.

Conclusion

Mega Gyarados is a Pokémon that regardless of its statistics, will be a Mega that people want in their teams, Gyarados is a fan favorite! It has a great CP statistic and a high attack statistic of 292, making it a great Water attacking type. He has some big weaknesses, losing that Flight type that has in its regular form means that it is much weaker for Grass types of what it used to be.

Mega Gyarados is generally not considered one of the top level Megas, but with such a cool design and so many sneakers having a soft spot in their hearts for this big bright red animal, does it really matter? It will be great to attack hard Fire types, and can be a help against Psychic and Ghost types, including Mega Mewtwo forms, where available.
