NORTH AUGUSTA, SC (WRDW / WAGT) – South Carolina Governor Henry McMaster is pushing for more coronavirus vaccines.
He tweeted a video showing how many vaccines the Palmetto State administered from 16 to 20 January. The number jumped from 1,800 to 13,000 in four days.
McMaster says, “Although I am proud to see the improvement, there is still much more to be done to get the vaccine to the people of South Carolina as quickly as possible.”
At the moment, South Carolina is still in its Phase 1-a, which includes primarily first responders, people who live and work in long-term care institutions and anyone aged 70 or over.
Recently, the staff who administer the vaccine and the tests, those who are 65 or older in the hospital and the parents of children who are clinically fragile have been added to the list.
The State Secretariat for Health and Environmental Services has not yet said when Phase 1-b will begin. His plan recommends that the vaccine be made available to this group when at least 70% of people in Phase 1-a have received their dose.
Here’s who could be included in 1-b:
- Public security officers and firefighters who were not vaccinated in Phase 1-a.
- Essential workers in non-health environments, such as supermarkets, post offices and schools.
- People who live and work in shared or crowded environments, such as homeless shelters and detention centers.
