McDonald’s is selling chicken hoods for $ 5

McDonald’s will sell a limited number of $ 5 gift packages through a special website on Thursday. The toast includes a hooded sweatshirt, personalized music and, of course, a first taste of your crispy chicken sandwich. It’s all about arousing excitement and online buzz for what has become a mundane menu item.

“We are excited to give fans early access to this sandwich and unique gifts that they can’t get anywhere else to honor this great addition to our menu,” said David Tovar, vice president of communications for McDonald’s, in a press release.

Undoubtedly, the most attractive item of the toast is a sweatshirt with a photo of McDonald’s new crispy chicken sandwich with the slogan “crispy juice”. The gift box also includes the vinyl recording of a song about music producer Tay Keith’s sandwich, and a gift card that recipients can use to redeem the sandwich the day before its official release in restaurants.

McDonalds (MCD) recently sold goods related to its food, including projects with musicians Travis Scott and J. Balvin. Scott’s collaboration with the chain has sold for hundreds of dollars more than the original retail price, according to the online market StockX.
Fast food chains regularly sell more than food, like clothes and experiences, to create buzz. Chipotle (CMG) started selling clothes dyed with used avocado kernels from the food chain last summer, Taco Bell created a hotel in Palm Springs in 2019 and KFC often launches weird items like nail polish and chicken-smelling wood.

Bet on the chicken

McDonald's new Deluxe chicken sandwich will go on sale next week.

McDonald’s new chicken sandwiches will go on sale next Wednesday in the United States. They come in three versions, including a crispy chicken sandwich topped with pickles and served on a potato roll, a spicy chicken sandwich that adds a spicy pepper sauce and a deluxe chicken sandwich that comes with lettuce, tomatoes and mayonnaise.

The chain launched a new selection of sandwiches on November investor day, with Joe Erlinger, president of McDonald’s USA, explaining that chicken is a good bet for the company.

“Globally, the chicken category is almost twice the size of beef,” he said at the time. “It is growing faster and represents a significant opportunity,” he said. “Developing an excellent chicken reputation represents one of our greatest aspirations. We want customers to choose McDonald’s for chicken.”

McDonald’s rivals, including Wendy’s, Shake Shack and KFC, recently launched new sandwiches in response to the 2019 Popeye launch, which triggered the chicken conflict.
