Senate minority leader Mitch McConnell, R-Ky., Criticized companies for repeating President Biden’s now dismissed claims, including that Georgia’s new voting legislation is “Jim Crow on steroids.”
“Corporations will have serious consequences if they become a vehicle for extreme left-wing mobs to hijack our country outside the constitutional order,” McConnell said in a statement. “Companies should not use economic blackmail to spread misinformation and push bad ideas that citizens reject at the polls.”

MLB withdrew this year’s All-Star Game and MLB draft from Georgia, and companies, including JPMorgan and Delta Airlines, condemned the recently signed voting law.
“Wealthy corporations have no problem operating in New York, for example, which has fewer early voting days than Georgia, requires excuses for absentee votes and restricts drink advertising,” said McConnell. “There is no consistent or factual pattern being applied here. It is just a false narrative picking up speed on its own impulse.”

“This misinformation has a purpose,” he continued. “Washington’s Democrats want to pass a comprehensive bill that allows them to rewrite all the electoral laws of the 50 states and turn the Federal Election Commission into a Democratic-led party body. It is impossible to defend this takeover, so the left wants to to win the debate, they want to silence the debate by intimidating citizens and entire states to submission. “
Delta CEO Ed Bastian sent a notice to employees last week saying he wanted to “make it very clear that the final bill is unacceptable and does not match Delta’s values”.
“The right to vote is sacred. It is fundamental to our democracy and these rights not only need to be protected, but easily facilitated in a safe and secure manner,” said Bastian.
“After taking time to fully understand everything in the bill, along with discussions with leaders and officials from the black community, it is clear that the bill includes provisions that will make it more difficult for many underrepresented voters, especially black voters, exercise their constitutional right to elect their representatives. This is wrong. “

The Georgia House of Representatives is already reacting. The state chamber voted on Wednesday to withdraw from Delta a multimillion-dollar tax cut in a symbolic rebuke.
The Washington Post Fact Checker denounced Biden last week for falsely claiming that Georgia’s new law “ends voting hours early,” giving him the most severe rating of Quatro Pinocchios for spreading disinformation. Biden has repeatedly said last week that the law signed by Georgia’s governor Brian Kemp, a Republican, would make it more difficult for the working class to vote.
“What worries me is how anti-American this whole initiative is. It’s sick. It’s sick,” said Biden. “Decide that you are going to end voting at 5 am, when workers are just leaving work.”
Biden doubled the next day in a written statement: “Among the outrageous parts of this new state law, it ends voting hours early, so workers cannot vote after their shift is over.”

The Washington Post fact checker, Glenn Kessler, wrote that Biden’s claim could not be substantiated.
