McConnell condemns ‘crazy lies’ in coup against Marjorie Taylor Greene

“Idiotic lies and conspiracy theories are cancer for the Republican Party and our country,” Senate minority leader Mitch McConnell said on Monday after questions about MP Marjorie Taylor Greene, R-Ga.

“Someone who suggested that perhaps no aircraft hit the Pentagon on 9/11, that the horrific school shootings were pre-staged and that the Clintons shot down JFK Jr.’s plane is not really living,” said McConnell.

McConnell, R-Ky., Did not mention the name of the Georgia representative, but his statement was released after NBC News asked about the controversial freshman legislator.

“This has nothing to do with the challenges that American families face or the robust debates about the content that can strengthen our party,” said his statement.

Greene on Twitter seemed to respond, writing: “The real cancer for the Republican Party is weak Republicans who only know how to lose elegantly. That’s why we are losing our country.”

She was investigated last week because of previous comments, including those that suggested school shootings in Newtown, Connecticut and Parkland, Florida, were staged. Greene has also expressed support for the QAnon conspiracy in the past.

McConnell and Greene are in different chambers, and McConnell’s comments on Monday appear to be the first that the Senate minority leader has made on the subject.

Earlier in the day, a group of House Democrats tabled a resolution to remove Greene from his two committee assignments because of the inflamed and false statements.

The resolution, sponsored by the Reps. Debbie Wasserman Schultz and Ted Deutch, both from Florida, and Jahana Hayes from Connecticut, would remove Greene from the House Education and Work Committee and the House Budget Committee.

The Rules Committee said it would consider the resolution on Wednesday the first step in putting it to a vote in plenary.
