McConnell blocks quick vote on $ 2,000 stimulus checks as fight approaches

Good morning and welcome to Fox News First. Here’s what you need to know when starting your day …

Mitch McConnell says the Senate will start ‘the process’ of considering checks for $ 2,000
Majority leader Mitch McConnell said on Tuesday that the Senate will address pressure from President Trump to increase stimulus checks sent to Americans, but gave no guarantees.

Democrats have asked the Senate to pass legislation that raises the stimulus from $ 600 to $ 2,000 because many Americans are struggling financially due to the coronavirus outbreak.

Some Republicans are concerned, however, that McConnell’s decision to block a quick vote could affect Georgia’s runoff on January 5, which will determine which party controls the Senate.

Trump used Twitter and warned Republicans that they should support increasing checks, unless they have a “political death wish. McConnell acknowledged that Trump” would like more direct financial support for American families.

He also mentioned that Trump wants Congress to address Section 230 of the Communications Decency Act, which provides protection for companies that host third-party content on their platforms – such as Facebook and Twitter – and that Trump wants Congress to examine electoral security.

“These are the three important issues that the president has linked,” said McConnell. “This week the Senate will start a process to put these three priorities in focus.” CLICK HERE FOR MORE ABOUT OUR INITIAL HISTORY

Nashville bomber’s girlfriend alerted authorities about him in 2019: report
Police visited the home of Nashville suicide bomber Anthony Quinn Warner in 2019 after his girlfriend told authorities he was making bombs inside his recreational vehicle, according to a report.

The documents obtained by the Nashville newspaper The Tennessean appeared to contradict a claim this week by the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation that Warner “was not on our radar” before a massive explosion on Christmas morning of a trailer outside an AT&T building in center of the state capital.

Warner is believed to have died in the explosion, which did not cause other fatalities. CLICK HERE FOR MORE

Trump campaign asks Supreme Court to review Wisconsin election fraud case
President Trump’s legal team petitioned the U.S. Supreme Court on Tuesday to consider its challenge from a previous Wisconsin Supreme Court decision to reject its allegations of irregularities in the use of absent ballots during the 2020 presidential campaign.

Trump 2020 campaign lawyer Rudy Giuliani filed for a Certiorari Warrant weeks after the Wisconsin Supreme Court voted 4-3 to reject a Trump campaign action that sought to overturn the state’s election results.

The president’s legal team asked the Supreme Court for a quick review of the matter before Congress meets to certify the results of the January 6 Electoral College vote. CLICK HERE FOR MORE

SOME STARTING WORDS

Actor Mel Gibson sat down with Raymond Arroyo, guest host of “The Ingraham Angle”, for a wide-ranging interview that addressed some of his classics, such as “Braveheart”.

The conversation then turned to politics, with Arroyo noting that Gibson rarely cares about party or candidate issues. The actor said it is his deliberate choice not to take sides or sides in public.

“Who cares what I think? I’m not an expert – what am I qualified to talk about?” Gibson commented. “Everything is fine. This allows you to have a sense of anonymity so that in your performance you can appear and be anything. You are not yet carrying much luggage. It is partly intentional.”
