The decision to accuse Trump came after he asked his supporters to “fight like hell” before breaking into the building.
“I know that everyone here will soon be marching to the Capitol building to make their voices heard in a peaceful and patriotic way,” Trump said that morning, after weeks of disputed election results.
After his speech, pro-Trump protesters invaded the Capitol, which put Congress in recess and the Capitol building in block. The attack left 5 people dead, including Capitol police officer Brian Sicknick.
Trump supporters insist that the president did not instruct the demonstration participants to commit acts of violence and McClintock said that “every movement has a lunatic fringe”.
