Mayo Clinic study shows that Pfizer and Moderna vaccines are 80% effective

ROCHESTER, Minnesota – A Mayo Clinic study released on Thursday shows that the Pfizer and Moderna vaccines are 80% effective after the second dose.

Previously, there was only evidence from clinical trials showing vaccine effectiveness, but this latest study proves that vaccines work in a real-world environment.

The Mayo Clinic says that ten days after patients receive their second dose of vaccines, they are much less likely to test positive and spread COVID-19 unknowingly, with the study showing an 80% effectiveness rate.

Infectious disease specialist Dr. Aaron Tande says he hopes this new evidence will encourage those on the fence about vaccination to sign up and get the vaccine.

He explained: “We think one of the reasons this pandemic has continued and had such an impact is that people can be minimally symptomatic or asymptomatic and spread this infection to others, so by showing that it would decrease the asymptomatic infection, it would decrease transmission to these people to others and will help end this pandemic. “

The study was conducted between mid-December and early February and included patients in Minnesota.
