Mayim Bialik says being a ‘depressed’ teenager kept her on track

Mayim Bialik gives credit to her parents and to be a “depressed teenager” for keeping her on track.

“My parents were very strict,” said the 45-year-old “Blossom” actress, who starred on the show for most of her teenage years, told Page Six how she managed to stay away from drugs when she was a child actress.

She added: “I was very lonely and depressed, so I think it helped. I was always at home. “

The “Call Me Kat” star said he was always reading Satre and Camus and listening to The Cure and Elvis Costello.

“I was a pretty dark teenager,” she laughed. “My parents were English teachers, so I definitely got over my melancholy, honestly.”

Bialik also grew up in a Jewish family, visiting Israel every two years since he was 16. The mother of two is still passionate about her religion and admits she has received a lot of criticism for her support for Israel.

“I think there are a lot of people who don’t understand Israel, a lot of Israelis don’t understand Israel,” she told us. “It is very complicated and I believe that Israel has the right to exist. I try and choose carefully what I say about Israel ”.

She is currently preparing for the debut of her new show, “Call Me Kat” and is working on a mental health podcast, “Mayim Bialik’s Breakdown”.

“I am trained in neuroscientist and there are so many aspects of mental health that many of us don’t even understand,” she explained. “So the idea is to break the science of that.”

As for Fox’s next series – which follows a 39-year-old single woman who spends all her savings to open a cat café in Louisville, Kentucky – Bialik says it’s “about a woman who turns lemons into lemonade daily.”

The program opens on January 3 at 8 pm
