Max Holloway and Calvin Kattar face off tonight (Saturday, January 16, 2021) in a featherweight “Fight Island” showdown in Abu Dhabi, UAE at UFC Fight Island 7. Two of the best 145 pound strikers ., both want to take a step closer to the title. For Max Holloway, his only chance to win back the crown is to win a lot of consecutive fights, or at least stay in the winning column until Alexander Volkanovski coughs the title.
Alternatively, Kattar catches a solid wave of momentum in this match. If he manages to dispatch the former champion, there is a real chance that Kattar will come out of the octagon with a guaranteed title shot.

First round
Kattar hits the first blow of the night, a low, solid kick. Kattar gives a jab, another low kick. Good left hook from Holloway. Holloway fires a combination, stings the leading calf. Holloway hits a few more low kicks and jabs. Kattar strikes back with precision. Holloway’s pressure is affecting Kattar, and he touches the body. Kattar scores with some clean rights, but Holloway immediately puts him back on the defensive with a combination of several punches. The rigid right hand hits Holloway’s chin – the Hawaiian is on fire! Strong spin kick behind Holloway, followed by yet another clean right hand.
Second round
Holloway’s direct punches are absolutely clear and are falling cleanly in the second. Kattar scored with a left hook. Holloway tore the body several times in a row. Clear 1-2 scores for Kattar. Kattar isn’t doing too badly when he plays, but Holloway is simply drowning him with feints and volume. Another good left hook score for Kattar, although Holloway responded immediately. Holloway ran forward, kneeling in his attack. Holloway’s pressure was simply relentless and he stung Kattar with his right hand! Holloway unleashed a big stir, trying to force the submission, but Kattar would not give up unless he was knocked down forever. Holloway hit several broken elbows, but Kattar survived them. Holloway gives a high kick in the final seconds, almost finishing Kattar once again on the bell. WOW!
Third Round
Holloway remains on the offensive until the third, attacking with a rotating elbow at the start. Kattar finds some jabs. Kattar now seeks fall opportunities, but Holloway defends them. Kattar scores with an elbow and a strong uppercut. Kattar’s big right hand keeps Holloway away! These two are fighting! 1-1-2 lands hard for Holloway. Hawaiian’s strong kick, then hits a heavy left. Score 1-2 nasty for Kattar. Holloway is tying combinations with effortless grace. Despite launching a ridiculous number of blows, Holloway is not breathing hard. Kattar finds a good elbow, but his success is very rare to build any momentum. Whenever Kattar approaches the fence, Holloway elbowes.
Fourth Round
Holloway waits about zero seconds before firing combinations of straight and strong punches. Kattar is paralyzed by the variety and volume of his enemy. Good left hook from Kattar. Holloway hiding his tears in the middle section very well. A shot in the left body injures Kattar, and he is covered along the fence. Holloway flies at his opponent, but Kattar shoots his elbows just long enough to survive … for a while. For a solid minute, Holloway braved his enemy’s savage blows to continue digging at his enemy. Holloway hits a trio of hard elbows, but Kattar refuses to fall. Good overhand from Kattar. One second. Kattar is still playing heat! Holloway brilliantly hides a kick to the head behind a punch, but Kattar manages to block it. “The Boston Finisher” somehow survives the round!
Round Five
Holloway’s strategy and volume remained the same in the fifth. Clear pictures continued to connect to the Hawaiian, stunning Kattar briefly once again. Kattar finds a 1-2-3. Another strong rotating kick hits Holloway. Holloway refuses to stop tearing the body. Holloway is styling Kattar, dropping his hands and calling himself the best in the world. After this presentation, can anyone argue?
Result: Max Holloway defeats Calvin Kattar via unanimous decision (50-43, 50-43, 50-42)
