Matthew Stafford sends a text message to Jared Goff: “I have big shoes to fill”

As Matthew Stafford continues to give outgoing interviews, especially to people in the media with whom he is extremely comfortable, we continue to learn more and more about his decision to ask for an exchange and what lies ahead as a member of the Los Angeles Rams.

Stafford, along with his wife Kelly, joined the Mitch Albom Show on Monday night to discuss his latest philanthropic effort in the city of Detroit and give more details about the decision to leave.

One detail he had not noticed in other interviews was the fact that he contacted Jared Goff, who was part of the compensation in return to Detroit for the Stafford exchange. After five successful years with the Rams, Stafford wanted to make sure that Goff knew how impressed he was with his game.

“I texted him. We send a small message. I just told him that I know that I will have to occupy an important place, ”Stafford told Albom. “I didn’t forget that he was in the Super Bowl just a few years ago. Therefore, he is a very good player in his own right. “

Expectations will certainly be higher for Stafford in Los Angeles than in Detroit. The Rams already have the third best chance in Super Bowl 56 after the exchange was settled, and they have had a winning record in all of Sean McVay’s four seasons in Los Angeles. Meanwhile, Lions have lost the playoffs for four consecutive years.

Stafford also wanted to make sure that Goff was comfortable in Detroit, a place that can seem intimidating to someone who has never been.

“I just wanted him to know that I appreciate him as a player and (to) obviously get in touch with me if he needs anything when it comes to Detroit, just when it comes to advice or places to stay, anything,” said Stafford . “I know he feels he can reach me, and I can reach him with anything in LA, too.”
