It seems that Matthew McConaughey is seriously considering running to become the next governor of Texas.

The actor said this while talking to Crime Stoppers of Houston’s The balanced voice podcast this week, the Houston Chronicle reported. When asked by Crime Stoppers CEO and host Rania Mankarious about a political race, McConaughey responded by saying that he is ruminating on the idea.

“It’s a real consideration,” said the 51-year-old man, who was born in Uvalde, Texas.

McConaughey, while promoting his book Greenlights at the Late Show, told presenter Stephen Colbert that he “has no plans” to run for governor of Texas in November 2020.

“I have no plans to do that now,” he said at the time. “As I said, it would depend on a lot of other people.”

McConaughey continued: “Look, now, no, I don’t understand politics … Politics seems to be a bankrupt business. The policy needs to redefine its purpose. As I move forward in life, yes, will I consider leadership roles where I can be most helpful? I would love. I’m doing this, regardless. That’s where I’m sitting right now. “

The next election for governor of Texas, currently held by Greg Abbott, will take place in November 2022.
