The Matt Ryan era in Atlanta may be coming to an end. The Atlanta Falcons are positioned in a privileged position with the fourth choice in the NFL’s 2021 Draft, and all signs point to them making money on the next passer.
Trevor Sikkema and Ben Solak, the hosts of the daily podcast Locked On NFL Draft, discussed at length the top 10 and how the quarterbacks could get off the board in April. They also explained why the Falcons could pull the trigger on their next guy while looking to transition away from Matt Ryan:
Sikkema: That’s why when you said at the beginning of the podcast that this draft could be really fun and that there would be a lot to talk about, that’s what you meant. Jacksonville is the quarterback. The Jets are likely to be defenders. Miami is probably swapping that choice for someone who can come and get a defender. So you have Atlanta, Philadelphia, Detroit, Carolina and Denver, even without leaving the top 10 teams that could choose a quarterback and there may be only one left at that point. I think Atlanta will really think about having a quarterback, especially since they will have a new regime coming in, both the general manager and the coach. They will want to prepare their guy and see this as a situation where they have Matt Ryan, he’s good, so they don’t need to play with the newbie right away. I think it’s an almost perfect situation. I think Atlanta should choose a quarterback.
