Wonderful

As if starring Chris Hemsworth and Christian Bale wasn’t enough, Thor: love and thunder got an extra dose of stellar power. Matt Damon joined the cast of the next blockbuster after landing in Sydney, Australia, where he will be quarantined for two weeks before filming begins.

Co-stars Chris Pratt, Dave Bautista and Tessa Thompson are also quarantined in Australia, while Natalie Portman has been in the country since September. Hemsworth, who plays the eponymous hero, lives in Byron Bay, a seaside town north of Sydney.

“I am very excited that my family and I will be able to call Australia from home in the coming months,” Damon said in a local press release. “Australian film crews are known worldwide for their professionalism and it is a joy to work with them, so the 14 days of quarantine will be worth it.”

Damon had a cameo in Thor: Ragnarok, predecessor to Love and Thunder, playing an actor who plays Loki in an Asgardian play. Love and Thunder, like Ragnarok, will be directed by Taika Waitit. It is being filmed in Australia in part thanks to a federal grant of around AU $ 24 million, about $ 18 million.

Love and Thunder is part of phase 4 of the Marvel cinematic universe and is scheduled for release on May 6, 2022 much of Phase 4 between now and then, as Love and Thunder will follow Black Widow (May 7, 2021), Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings (July 9, 2021), Eternals (November 5, 2021), an untitled Spider-Man sequel (December 17, 2021) and Doctor Strong in the Multiverse of Madness (March 25, 2022).
