IDAHO FALLS – The Eastern Idaho Public Health District Health Council met on Thursday and determined that Fremont and Lemhi counties have met the metric to return to the COVID-19 Regional Response Plan Minimum Risk Level. The metric was reached by having its rate of active cases below the limit of 15 / 10,000 inhabitants for the most recent 14-day period.

Although the Public Health Order for facial coverage has been rescinded, this does not alleviate the need to make the necessary choices to slow the spread of the virus in our communities, as the virus is still circulating and presenting a risk of disease, hospitalization and death.

These options include staying at home when you are sick, washing your hands frequently, keeping space (at least 6 feet) between people, and when you cannot distance yourself, wearing a mask correctly and consistently.

Vaccine administration continues to be successfully implemented in our health district. We are in the process of completing Priority Group 1, which consists of healthcare professionals and residents in long-term care facilities not affiliated with the Pharmacy Partnership for Long Term Care program. If you are a healthcare professional and have not had the opportunity to be vaccinated, visit our website for information on scheduling an appointment. Proof of employment is required before receiving the vaccine.

Governor Little announced earlier this week the next priority group (2.1) for vaccination, consisting of essential frontline workers and adults aged 65 and over. Essential frontline workers are categorized, without hierarchical order, as follows:

• First responders
• Education: pre-school aged 12 employees and teachers and daycare centers [childcare] workers
• Correctional and detention staff

Vaccination of the essential frontline worker began on January 12 and is being coordinated by employers, as well as individual vaccination appointments at our offices. Vaccination for older adults is scheduled to begin in early February.
