Maryland Rep. Jamie Raskin announces the death of his 25-year-old son: ‘Tommy was pure magic’

Deputy Jamie Raskin, D-Md., Revealed on Thursday that his 25-year-old son, Tommy Raskin, died.

“Tommy was pure magic. His brilliance and compassion were limitless. He passionately loved his family, friends and animals and was dedicated to the cause of the world’s poor,” Raskin and his wife, Sarah Bloom Raskin, said in a statement. “We are devastated and destroyed by being without him.”

Tommy Raskin was in his second year at Harvard Law School after graduating from Amherst College in Amherst, Massachusetts. The family did not reveal the cause of death.

The congressman’s office said the family was “grateful for the show of support and love from neighbors, constituents and friends” and asked everyone to “observe strict COVID-19 protocols during this period of mourning”.

Condolences rained on the Raskin family.

“My heart is completely shattered by my dear friend, Dep. Raskin, Sarah and their family in this devastating loss,” wrote Dep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, DN.Y. Twitter. “Tommy was an incredible and brilliant beam of light. All of our thoughts are with the Raskin family, and we pray for support to involve them in this unimaginable moment.”

“The First Lady and I extend our deepest condolences for this painful loss,” wrote Maryland Governor Larry Hogan in Twitter. “I ask all Maryland residents to keep the Raskin family in their prayers.”

Raskin represents the 8th district of Maryland since 2017.
