Marvel’s ‘Moon Knight’: May Calamawy joins Oscar Isaac at Disney + Series (exclusive)

Mohamed Diab, the Egyptian commander behind the Middle East drama Shockand Justin Benson and Aaron Moorhead, a genre-independent film team behind sci-fi horror films The infinite and Synchronic, are directing the show.

Moon Knight has had several incarnations over the decades since his debut in 1975, from being a former Marine who became a mercenary with various alter egos to being a channel for the Egyptian moon god Khonshu, and more recently a well-dressed consultant. One aspect of stories in the era of modern comics has been dealing with the mental illness of multiple personalities.

It is unclear what Marvel’s opinion will be for the series. It is also unclear what role Calamawy will play and Marvel declined to comment.

Calamawy plays Ramy Youssef’s sister in Ramy, the highly regarded Emmy nominated dramatic comedy series on Hulu. The program, about an Arab-Muslim American sailing in opposite cultural communities, is in its third season. She recently finished the indie comedy Together together which stars Ed Helms.

Calamawy is represented by Management 360.
