Marvel’s Eternals was filmed very differently from most MCU films

Eternals star Salma Hayek explained how Marvel’s next Phase 4 film differs from other MCU entries. In an interview with Variety, Hayek, who is starring the mighty Ajak in the Phase 4 film, talked about how the Eternals script came to life and how it differs from other MCU titles. Notably, she highlighted the film’s production and cinematography style, combined with the use of real locations, as the main reasons why the film was different from its predecessors.

“It has a completely different DNA than [other Marvel movies], “Hayek explained.” It is filmed differently from everyone else. It’s in real locations and they found some crazy extraterrestrial-looking locations. I don’t know if I’m allowed to talk about what they do with the camera, but … it’s not mainly done in the mail. Cinematography is incredible. “

We learned earlier that Eternals director Chloé Zhao filmed the film with the same equipment she used for her independent film Nomadland because she supposedly wanted to keep the story grounded and experimental, despite being a “very big, comprehensive and multi-age story. “which apparently also came in the best tone that Marvel’s Kevin Feige had ever heard.

Supposedly the MCU’s most “sci-fi” film, Eternals follows the exploits of an immortal alien race created by the Celestials as they come together to protect humanity from its evil counterparts, the Deviants. Hayek, who admits he knew very little about his character before accepting the role, portrays a champion of centuries that humans have already confused with the Aztec deity Quetzalcoatl.

Hayek referred to seeing himself as Ajax for the first time as an empowering experience. “There was something really moving, not just for me, but for everything, all the different stereotypes. She is not sexy. Do you know what I am saying? She is not sexy at all. I am very short. I was intimidated by being short during all my life. And suddenly, it doesn’t matter. You are a superhero in the Marvel universe. It touched me. “
