Anthony Mackie and Sebastian Stan reprise their roles as Sam Wilson and Bucky Barnes in Marvel’s The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, arriving at Disney + in March.
Marvel Studios did the Super Bowl the right way by releasing a two-minute long trailer for their new series, The Falcon and the Winter Soldier. Anthony Mackie and Sebastian Stan reprise their roles as Sam Wilson (the Falcon) and Bucky Barnes (the Winter Soldier) for the Disney + show, which takes place after the events of Avengers: Endgame. The pair will “team up on a global adventure that tests your skills – and your patience.”
(Some spoilers for previous MCU movies below.)
You should remember that after the Avengers and their many allies finally defeated Thanos in EndgameSteve Rogers / Captain America (Chris Evans) handed Sam his shield so he could take on the mantle. But will Sam accept that? This is part of what The Falcon and the Winter Soldier will explore throughout its six episodes, and showrunner Malcolm Spellman said the tone will be similar to Captain America: Winter Soldier. Marvel is reportedly spending about $ 25 million per episode to ensure cinematic quality for the series.
The studio launched an eye-popping, action-packed trailer for the series during the Disney Investor Day in December, which pleasantly displayed the friendly vibe of the titular superheroes, exchanging barbs and jokes between frustrating the bad guys. We have even more of this here. The trailer begins with Sam and Bucky in the midst of some kind of couple therapy in the hope of making them work together with less friction, given their very different operating styles. And, of course, it degenerates in a stare competition between the two.
We know that the main villain will be Baron Helmut Zemo, a Sokovian colonel who became a terrorist obsessed with defeating the Avengers, with Daniel Brühl reprising the role of Captain America Civil War. The previous film did not portray him with his trademark purple mask from the comics, but the series will do so, supposedly to Brühl’s delight. We catch a glimpse of the mask in this new trailer when a narration sings: “Superheroes cannot exist. I have no intention of leaving my work unfinished.”
The duo will also be fighting an “anti-patriotist anarchist group” called Flag-Smashers, with Erin Kellerman playing one of the masked members. Agent Carter fans will be happy to see Emily VanCamp reprising her Civil war role as Sharon Carter (Peggy’s daughter). She has apparently been on the run since the end of the film and may show some ass kicking talents that would make her mother proud. Don Cheadle will make an appearance on the series as Rhodey / War Machine, and George St.-Pierre will be back as a mercenary and kickboxing master Georges Batroc, whose last MCU appearance was in The winter soldier. And Wyatt Russell will play John F. Walker, described as “a military successor to Captain America” created by the US government.
