The Thing, the Invisible Woman, Mr. Fantastic and the Human Torch are arriving at the MCU.

Marvel Comics

How WandaVision brings the Marvel Cinematic Universe excitement with Disney Plus, you may be wondering about upcoming movies. We know the Fantastic Four has been coming to MCU since Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige verified name the super team in San Diego Comic-Con 2019 after Disney, Marvel’s parent company have the rights in your Acquisition of Fox.

So Feige released a major update during last December Disney Plus event – the studio is making a new Fantastic Four film, and will be directed by Jon Watts (director of Spider-Man: Homecoming, Far from home It is theirs next sequence)

This film is still in the beginning of production, but a member of the group may have received a compliment episodes 5 and 6 from WandaVision. Let’s see who the Fantastic Four are, the possible cast and release date, and analyze the (ugh) cinematic history of the characters.

The basic

Conveniently, the introduction of the 90s animated series describes the team’s origins and powers in a super captivating way.

You’re welcome. Now that you’re stomping your feet, let’s look at the basics. The team first appeared in the Fantastic Four No. 1 of 1961, by comic book legends Stan Lee and Jack Kirby. This basically kicked off the Marvel Comics Universe, as the duo co-created the Avengers and X-Men soon after.

This problem started it all.

Marvel Comics

The first edition shows Reed Richards, Sue Storm, Johnny Storm and Ben Grimm taking off into space on an experimental rocket. They are bombarded with cosmic radiation (which is a real thing), giving them a series of cool superpowers (not a real thing).

  • Reed can stretch his body in just about any shape and uses the code name Mr. Fantastic. He is also super smart.
  • Sue can be invisible and create powerful force fields. She passes for Invisible Girl initially, but changes to the more dignified Invisible Woman later. Also engaged to Reed.
  • Johnny can cover his body with flames, control the fire and fly. Known as the Human Torch. He is Sue’s brother, and his catchphrase is “Flame on!”
  • Ben turns into a rock monster – taking on the name with super strength and stamina. It gets furious at first, but it softens over time. Glorious phrase: “It’s time to win!” He is Very well.

They fight the Mole Man in the first edition, but soon attract a gallery of bandits that includes the Skrulls (who joined the MCU in Captain Marvel), the furious inhabitant of the Sea Namor, the Submarine, the planet-eater Galactus and his herald, the Silver Surfer, idiot Kree Ronan, the Accuser and Negative Zone ruler, Annihilus. But one villain is above them all.

Look how cool Dr. Doom is!

Marvel Comics

Doom

Doctor Doom, also known as Victor Von Doom, was Stan Lee’s favorite villain because he is the ruler of his native country, Latvéria. Appearing for the first time in Fantastic Quartet No. 3 of 1962, he was Reed’s rival in college and ignored his advice about a machine failure he was working on. The resulting explosion messed up Destiny’s face, and he began to wear a mask to hide his disfigurement.

Like Reed, Doom is a superintelligent scientist. Along with his mask, he forged advanced armor, which fills the vacancy left after Tony Stark’s fate in Avengers: Endgame. He has a lot of doppelgangers robots – Doombots – who can take their place when the heroes defeat him.

In addition to his scientific ability, Doom is a powerful wizard, so he could face Dr. Strange also. In the comics, he achieved maximum power in the 1985 and 2015 Secret War stories – he is one of the few villains worthy of taking on the entire Marvel Cinematic Universe. There is no guarantee that Doom will actually appear in the first Fantastic Four MCU, but it is so cool and iconic that it should appear somehow.

In 2017, Legion creator Noah Hawley said he was working on a Doctor Doom movie, but it is likely that this plan was shelved or changed when Disney bought Fox. In early 2020, he expressed hope that his script would fit Marvel Studios’ plan for the character, but noted at the time that he had not heard nothing.

Casting

There’s no word on the cast yet, but the fans very called for The officeJohn Krasinski will play Reed and Limit of tomorrowEmily Blunt will be Sue. Real-life husband and wife played a couple on screen in 2018 A quiet place, so it would be great to see them bring that dynamic to the MCU.

Release date of

You will have to be patient, as this film has no release date yet. Marvel’s programming of upcoming films and programs for 2021 and 2022 it is already packed, and Watts is still working on the third MCU adventure Spidey. It will probably be 2023 before the Fantastic Four hits theaters.

Previous films

The first attempt to bring the team to the silver screen took place in The Fantastic Four of 1994, which involved the legend of the film B Roger Corman. This was an origin story for the characters, but never released – it’s kind of like the Star Wars Vacation Special of Marvel movies – but there are conflicting stories about why. If you’re curious, you’re on YouTube and it’s not that bad.

The Fantastic Four of 2015 is not worth your time.

20th Century Fox

The team’s first real cinematic outing took place in the Fantastic Four of 2005, directed by Tim Story, with a future captain America Chris Evans like Johnny. Jessica Alba played Sue, Ioan Gruffudd was Reed and Michael Chiklis played Ben. Doom was played by Julian McMahon and that origin story was disappointing. This one was released the same year as Batman Begins, and the Fantastic Four looked like a throwback to more stupid superhero movies.

That didn’t stop him from getting a sequel, Rise of the Silver Surfer, in 2007. This film featured the incredible Silver Surfer (played by Doug Jones and voiced by Laurence Fishburne), but it still hasn’t been great. He is also famous for portraying Galactus as a cosmic storm instead of his traditional comic book form.

The franchise was restarted in 2015, with director Josh Trank in charge. This movie had a great cast – Miles Teller as Reed, Kate Mara as Sue, Michael B. Jordan as Johnny, Jamie Bell as Ben and Toby Kebbell as Doom – but it ended up being a joyless mess. Since then, Trank has said he has no interest in directing any more Marvel or DC films.

Let’s hope that the Marvel Studios attempt, whenever we see it, finally gives the Fantastic Four the cinematic prominence they deserve. At Feige we trust.
