Marvel Avengers are increasing the grind needed to level up in the next update • Eurogamer.net

Developer Crystal Dynamics has announced that it will be more difficult to level up Marvel’s Avengers as part of the next game update.

Writing on the Marvel Avengers website, Crystal Dynamics explained that the goal of their next XP rework is to replace the “straight line” leveling system currently employed by the game with a leveling curve. This will result in players needing more XP to level up in the game from level 25, with the amount increasing as the level 50 threshold approaches, meaning it will take longer to reach higher character levels.

While it is tempting to read the growing grind as a cynical attempt to keep players engaged in the Avengers live service game for longer, Crystal Dynamics insists that the goal is to correct pace problems with the existing leveling system, arguing for speed the game currently grants skill points “can be confusing and overwhelming” for younger players. “We want every decision to invest in a skill or Hero to be more meaningful,” he writes.

In something like tacit recognition, players may not be entirely receptive to the move, Crystal Dynamics suggests: “If you have a character who is not a level 50 and you want to speed up your progress, use this time to do so before update 18 March. “

Along with this XP rework, Crystal Dynamics is making changes to the way certain cosmetics are rewarded in the game. It will no longer be possible to obtain random cosmetic items through safes, missions, leveling up or from the cosmetics seller. Instead, players must first earn enough units in the game to buy them – a move the developer says will provide “more agility and clarity for the player”.

This change will require rework for the cosmetics supplier, and many random items will be temporarily removed from the game in the next update until development is complete.

XP and the Crystal Dynamics cosmetic rework will reach the Marvel Avengers on March 18, along with the new playable hero Hawkeye and the long-awaited PS5 and Xbox Series X / S update.
