November’s pre-hire date for college basketball started on Wednesday and at 1:00 pm from the South Carolina coach Frank Martin had signed letters of intent from the two guards in his 2021 recruiting class – shipowner Jacobi Wright and shooting guard Devin Carter.
“They are two guys who live and breathe basketball,” said Martin in his first public comments about the pair. “They are leaders and incredibly competitive. When you sit down and talk to them, they are soft-spoken young people. They are very soft with the way they express themselves in a conversation, but they go out on the court and want to take their head off and are very demanding of their teammates who do the same. “
Wright, who played at Legacy Early College in Greenville, SC, is from Fort Mill. He committed to Gamecocks in July and is one of the top 200 players and one of the top 20 “combo guards” in the country, according to 247Sports Composite.
“Jacobi is his final owner,” said Martin. “He is a leader, he elevates the talent of everyone around him and he is fearless at the moment. He will be a great addition to our basketball team. He is very active on the basketball court, always looking to help and do more. He’s a lot of fun and a pit bull. “

Carter, a native of Miami, Florida, played at the Doral Academy Charter in high school. Also a Top 200 player, Carter committed to South Carolina in April, but was reclassified from the 2020 class to 2021 in order to attend the Brewster Academy after suffering a shoulder injury last year. He is the son of 13-year-old NBA guard Anthony Carter.
“Devin is likewise with an unbelievable bloodline,” said Martin. “His father has played in the NBA forever and is now a technical assistant. AC trains him and really trains him hard and Devin responds to that. Devin is long, in the 1.80 m range with very long arms and big hands. It fits the profile of the guards I like to train.
“He played a point and played outside the ball. He is recovering from a shoulder injury he suffered in the last year of high school, the main reason he went to prep school. We are excited about him, again, another unbelievable competitor who is a great teammate. “

With a veteran group of guards already on their list – highlighted by Seventh woods and AJ Lawson, both being able to leave the program in 2021 – Martin has a pair of guards who meet the profile he seeks when recruiting to replace them.
“The two players played ball in high school with excellent high school coaches,” said Martin. “They are prepared, challenged and excited to be Gamecocks. The two are eager to say that they will play for us. I am very happy with that. “
Three stars forward Carlous Williams (Gulfport, Miss./Harrison Central) is the third member of Carolina’s 2021 recruiting class. He must sign with Gamecocks during the spring subscription period.
