Saturday’s Ligue 1 match between Marseille and Rennes was postponed after fans invaded Marseille’s training ground.
Through French communication RMC Sport (h / t ESPN.com), about 150-200 Marseille fans tried to enter the Robert Louis Dreyfus Center.
RMC Sport posted video footage of the fans appearing to launch flags and fireworks at the training center:
“In view of the incidents that happened in the Olympique de Marseille training center this afternoon, the OM-Stade Rennais game (round 22 of the Ligue 1 Uber Eats) has been postponed to a later date, “said Ligue 1 in an official statement.
RMC Sport noted that fans were protesting against club officials.
Marseille Manager André Villas-Boas, who has been on the team since May 2019, recently said he should leave the club at the end of the Ligue 1 season.
Marseille are currently in seventh place with a 9-5-6 record in 20 games this season in Ligue 1. OM also comes from last place and elimination in Group C of the 2020-21 UEFA Champions League season.
