Congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene of Georgia and Senator Mitt Romney of Utah exchanged blows on Twitter on Saturday after Greene said former President Donald Trump expressed his support for her during a phone call.
Republican Party leaders have increasingly faced calls to punish Greene, which represents Georgia’s 14th congressional district, for his earlier support for conspiracy theories. On Saturday, Greene tweeted that she had a “BIG connection” with Trump and said the former president indicated his support for her amid Democratic calls for her expulsion. “The bloodthirsty media and socialists hate America. Democrats are attacking me now as they always attack President Trump,” she added.
Romney criticized the alleged phone call from Greene and Trump, tweeting: “Lies of a feather fly together: the nonsense of Marjorie Taylor Greene and the ‘big lie’ of a stolen election.”
Greene responded on Saturday afternoon and accused Romney of ignoring the concerns of the American public. “‘Republican’ Senator Mitt Romney obviously doesn’t care about people’s number one concern. Please grow a pair or a spine,” she tweeted in response.

Greene has faced growing bipartisan criticism in recent weeks, after previous publications on social media revealed that she liked and was involved in conspiracy theories and calls for violence against Democrats.
Democratic Congressman Jim McGovern on Friday called minority leader in the House, Kevin McCarthy, a “coward” for not having stripped Greene of his duties on the committee after her reports on social media activity.
“He is afraid to face people like Marjorie Taylor Greene and the most radical elements in his party,” McGovern told Anderson Cooper of CNN. “The people who believe in these crazy conspiracy theories, these QAnon theories, and I think he thinks that’s where the Republican Party energy and excitement is now. And it’s really sad because Lincoln’s party has become the party of Conspiracy theories. “
Greene previously indicated support for the conspiracy theory of the satanic cannibal pedophile known as QAnon, but later distanced himself from it while running for Congress.
But social media activity has recently resurfaced, and videos show that Greene was also positively involved with other online conspiracy theories before taking office, including the idea that Parkland and other school shootings were staged to promote US gun restrictions. .
Democratic Congressman Jimmy Gomez announced on Wednesday that he would soon present a resolution to expel Greene from Congress for his previous involvement in online activities “calling for political violence against the mayor, members of Congress and former President Barack Obama”.
