“I used to be a perfectionist,” she said, “but it became difficult to maintain that pattern after having my children. A lot was out of my control. ‘

And while she hopes to teach people how to value what you have in your home and release clutter for clarity, your path to finding joy in life has not been an easy task.

“I hope that my openness on the subject will help others to soften impossible standards,” said Kondo. ‘I gave up perfectionism a while ago!’

While her 2020 book tour for Joy at Work was canceled due to the coronavirus, she leaned towards what she knows best and practiced self-care.
