Santa Claus couldn’t make you happy with a toy on Christmas Day, but at least one lasting seasonal icon brought you joy in December. According to TMZ, Mariah Carey’s 1994 (and forever) holiday hit “All I Want for Christmas Is You” allegedly boarded a rocket-powered sled and surpassed Spotify’s one-day record with more than 17,223 .000 million transmissions.

“Wow,” the singer tweeted Friday in response to the news. “I know that people think I’m making ‘currency’ (little secret: the artist earns very little from the streams), but the real reason for sitting here, surprised and satisfied, is to see the joy that this little song I wrote brings people. THANK YOU & MERRY CHRISTMAS !!! “

The modern classic has already reached the top of the Billboard Hot 100 again earlier this month, the same slot it stole in the first week of January 2020 and, unless another music star wants to release a massive single at this point, it will probably have it at the beginning of the next month . Honestly, the way this year is going, broadcasting “All I Want for Christmas Is You” 17 million times a day may just be the way to spend the next six months, nine months or even the Christmas season again …
