Salazar, a Republican, said on Twitter that she was admitted to a local hospital with cardiac arrhythmia, commonly known as an irregular heartbeat, on December 23, before being tested for Covid-19. That test was positive, she said.
“I hope you can forgive me, as I haven’t been able to communicate on social media, but I was diagnosed with COVID-19. I’m quarantined at home and getting better every day. I’m looking forward to starting working for my community, once that is clinically admissible, “Salazar
tweeted.
Salazar, who defeated Democratic MP Donna Shalala in November, left the hospital and started her quarantine process at home as soon as she was in “stable condition,” she said.
“I am extremely grateful to the tireless frontline medical workers in our community, who help so many people in fighting the pandemic. I am quarantined at home and getting better every day. I look forward to starting working for my community once it is clinically permissible, “said Salazar.
Salazar’s diagnosis arrives in December and sets records as the deadliest month since the pandemic began.
On Tuesday, Louisiana’s elected Congressman, Luke Letlow, died after being diagnosed with Covid-19. The Republican was 41 years old.
Earlier this month, several other GOP lawmakers tested positive for the virus – including Alabama representative Mike Rogers, California representatives Devin Nunes and Ken Calvert and South Carolina deputy Joe Wilson – joining the several dozen members Congress members who tested positive for the virus or its antibodies.
Wisconsin Democratic MP Gwen Moore said on Monday that she had tested positive for the virus.
