Marcus Mariota is happy to continue as part of the Las Vegas Raiders going forward, despite suffering a cut in pay to remain in the team.

Via Rob DeMello of KHON2, Mariota said the chance of staying with the Raiders outweighed any concerns about cutting his salary for the next season.

“I think at the end of the day. I focus on controlling what I can control ”, said Mariota. “This is the product in the field. Every day I wake up, train and get ready to go. At the end of the day, we are very blessed to be playing this game for a living. Many of us earn a good amount of money. For me, I love to play the game. The excitement, the opportunity to be a Raider overcame all of that. Being here in Vegas, being part of this organization meant a lot more to me. I’m excited to be able to go back. “

Mariota accepted a deal that cut his salary from $ 10.725 million to just $ 3.5 million this season. He has incentives included so that he can win up to $ 8 million if he gets a chance to play and reach his performance goals. It’s a pretty big chunk that he decided to give up to make sure he stayed with the Raiders.

“I think that, at the end of the day, the adversities, the challenges you face, will eventually develop who you are. I am very excited to hopefully overcome this obstacle. I feel like I got healthy. I have the opportunity to have a little stability, something that has been difficult to understand in my career. I am very excited to be in a place that I feel comfortable with. I am confident. I will do everything I can to help this team win, ”said Mariota.
