March Madness live: college basketball scores, key updates from the 2021 NCAA tournament to Sweet 16 on Saturday

An Oregon State team that was chosen to finish last in Pac-12 before the season heads for the Elite Eight after defeating Loyola Chicago 65-58 on Saturday. The Beavers are only the second number 12 to reach the Elite Eight and will face the winner of Saturday night’s game between Houston and Syracuse.

Oregon State scored just three points in the first nine minutes of the game and was down 9-3 at the start against the No. 8 Ramblers. But the Beavers played a stifling defense on their own and finally found an offensive groove after the weak start.

Guard Ethan Thompson led the way with 22 points for Oregon State, which benefited from 18 out of 20 free-throw attempts. Cameron Krutwig led Loyola Chicago with 14 points and 10 rebounds, but the Ramblers fought on the outside, making only 5 of 23 attempts at 3 points.
