March Madness 2021 – NCAA tournament highlights and biggest moves

March Madness, it has been a history of upheaval in 2021. We are on the second day of the 32nd round and no one knows who is going to fall today.

On Sunday, the Cinderella stories of Loyola Chicago and Oral Roberts continued. The 8-headed Ramblers took Illinois down in a 71-58 victory that saw Sister Jean’s prayers for the Illini shoot less than 30 percent of the three-point line to come true.

Oral Roberts, with 15 seedlings, started the tournament by disturbing the state of Ohio, and on Sunday they held the 81-78 victory over Florida with 7 seeded. Oral Roberts won their games by six combined points, and they will face Arkansas with 3 seed heads in their first Sweet 16 since 1974.

These were not the only surprises that happened on Sunday. Syracuse with 11 seeds looked like one of Jim Boeheim’s best when defeating West Virginia with 3 seeds, and Oregon State with 12 seeds, having already defeated an orange team in Tennessee with 5 seeds, did it again against Oklahoma State with 4 seeds.

Goodbye to Drew Timme’s mustache?

Gonzaga with 1 seeded head had an excellent performance from second year striker Drew Timme in his victory over Oklahoma with 8 seeded heads. Timme lost 30 points, withdrew 13 rebounds and added four assists to complete. After the game, he was told that his mother said he would have to shave his mustache if the Bulldogs won – which was news to him, after all.

Luka Garza’s emotional farewell

2-seed Iowa was knocked out by 7-seed Oregon on Monday, but it was not for lack of effort by Luka Garza. The Hawkeyes’ centerman scored 36 of his team’s 80 points and added nine rebounds to make sure. After the game, the senior reflected on an emotional press conference about his last game representing Iowa.

Iowa veteran Luka Garza is thrilled to be leaving the game for the last time as a Hawkeye.

Something that was more impressive in Garza’s line? Oregon made him win those points – they contested 16 of his 20 pitches.

The slipper – umm, basketball shoes – does not fit

Remember when Zion Williamson cut so hard that his shoe broke in a Duke-North Carolina game in 2019? Well, something similar happened to Ben Vander Plas, from Ohio, in the second round.

The 6-foot-8 junior went through his sole and needed a new pair of shoes in the middle of the Bobcats’ fight against fifth-placed Creighton.

Geaux Joe

Joe Burrow led the LSU football team for the 2019 national championship. He hasn’t just cheered for his school yet, sitting down to watch eighth-placed Tigers attempt to topple Michigan.
