Manhunt is trending and heterosexual players are holding on to their motion controllers / Queerty

Heterosexual players took an intensive course on gay culture when “Manhunt” briefly appeared on Twitter at lunch today.

The name “Manhunt” has been used for many things. It is the title of a Rockstar video game franchise from the early 2000s that had something to do with prisons and snuff films. (Do not ask.)

It is also the name of a super popular YouTube series by creator Dream, in which viewers basically sit and watch others talking while playing a video game called “Minecraft Manhunt”. It’s apparently fascinating, if you like that kind of thing.

We, of course, know this because it is the original gay dating app.

Manhunt was first launched in 2001 as a gay cruise network and is often considered the inspiration for apps like Grindr, Scruff and Jack’d. It calls itself the “first gay dating site” and has over 6 million users worldwide, making it “the largest gay video chat site for men in the world”

When fans of the video game Manhunt and the series on the web saw the word “Manhunt” as a trend, they were super excited. Until they investigated further. And then, well, let’s just take a look at your reactions …
